Cement One of the Best Cocktail Bars in Shenzhen

Location of Cement

Nestled in a side street of Shangmeilin, Futian, which is just in arms reach of Hong Kong, is a beautiful speakeasy style cocktail bar called Cement. Tucked away in an alley just off the beaten path (the alley will open up to wider space soon) is a unique little bar. It’s located near the Meicun subway station which obviously wont be open by the time stumble out after one too many cocktails. Despite its small size or perhaps because of it, the place can get pretty busy with its loyal following of locals and a growing one of foreigner residents.

Drinks

Cement boasts a well-curated cocktail menu, thanks to its owner, David, who is passionate about mixology. He is a great example of how far China has come in the world of cocktails. Having traveled overseas to refine his craft, David serves up high-quality cocktails that taste wonderful and wouldn’t be out of place in a more cosmopolitan setting. The drinks are expertly made, with attention to detail, and surprisingly affordable—around 80 RMB for a well-mixed cocktail. If you’re lucky, David might even offer you one of his signature free cocktail shots, which are kind of his signature cocktails. which are a must-try. A particular favourite of mine is the Gin Bloody Mary. Sorry vodka lovers, gin is just simply better. If you’re in any doubt you could always ask David for one of his more creative cocktails.

Ambience

The bar’s intimate lighting and cozy layout create a warm, welcoming atmosphere a perfect venue and destination.  It’s the perfect spot for a relaxed evening, whether you’re out with friends or looking to meet new people. The non-smoking policy inside ensures a clean, fresh environment, though there’s an outdoor seating area for those who want to enjoy a smoke. In a bustling city like Shenzhen, having an outdoor option is a rare and appreciated perk. The crowd at Cement is a mix of young professionals, students, and educated locals, giving the place a lively yet laid-back vibe. It really is the perfect place to unwind.

Service

David initially was behind the bar, preparing the cocktails all by himself,  single-handedly. His business has since grown and now includes a small team of friendly staff to help keep things running smoothly. The service is excellent, attentive, welcoming, and personal. David and his team make a point to engage with guests, and it’s clear that customer satisfaction is a top priority. The other bartenders are also experienced  and just welcoming as David himself. Every visit here leaves you feeling your among friends.

Value for Money

For a bar of this quality, Cement is very reasonably priced. Cocktails are generally priced around 80 RMB, which is well below the cost of drinks in Shenzhen’s central business district (CBD). Considering the quality of the drinks, the cozy ambiance, and the excellent service, Cement offers fantastic value for money. It’s a spot where you can enjoy premium cocktails without the premium price tag.

Final Thoughts

Cement is a standout cocktail bar in Shenzhen, offering a unique blend of quality, affordability, and atmosphere. With its hidden location, intimate setting, and exceptional service, it’s a place that feels both exclusive and welcoming. Whether you’re a cocktail enthusiast or just looking for a laid-back night out, Cement is a must-visit. David’s passion for mixology and the bar’s growing community of loyal patrons make it one of Futian’s and the city’s best-kept secrets. Don’t miss the chance to visit this place, perhaps it’s my favourite bar in Shenzhen. It easily better than many of the famous cocktail bars in Shekou, Nanshan, or even Luohu which have long been the main draw for cocktail lovers.
