It’s autumn in Shenzhen, arguably the best time of the year to enjoy outdoor coffee shops, BBQs and cafes. I’m sitting at Moon Ke Coffee, or Moon Coffee as I call it, on the corner of a crossroads. I don’t know what it is about junctions, but they seem to draw people, and some of my favourite places are on them.
The light is golden, just about to dip behind the tall residential buildings opposite. Before the sun slips west and a cool evening begins, I want to tell you about one of my favourite coffee shops.
I first found this place years back, when it was just a flower shop next to another coffee shop where I used to go. That place has since changed ownership. Moon Coffee is different now. They’ve kept the plants and added more tables, and it’s a lot busier. Me, I’m here for the coffee and the warm light.

Finding the place
It’s on the corner of a busy junction, and it’s not that hard to find. It’s about a ten-minute walk from Lingzhi station, on a straight road. The street is full of coffee shops, in fact, and this is the first one in the line if you’re walking from there.

Vibe
The vibe is pretty awesome. On a holiday like this week it’s very busy, and it’s packed on the weekends as well. Most people, it seems, are here for social media picks, especially young women and young adults in general. Some come for the coffee. Many come for the photos. That doesn’t take away from the wonderful interior and the friendly service. This place has a very cool cat, too.

There are lots of windows, so great light and street views, delicate curtains and cosy tables, and secret corners.
The outside area is mixed in amongst large plants and flowers, a proper patio space. In the summer the sun is a little too strong, but not this time of year.

What’s to drink?
They have the typical kind of fare: lattes, americanos, and even cappuccinos. I’d say the coffee beans are fair. Personally I drink lattes for the art, and americanos to taste the beans. The coffee doesn’t stand out, but it’s still solid beans they use.

They don’t just have coffees; they have other drinks too. There’s a blue drink that’s very popular here as well.
What’s tasty?
They have a whole range of cakes, which look really good. I can be honest with you, I don’t normally order them in coffee shops, especially these days because I’m reviewing so many bars and coffee shops and I don’t really have the budget for extra snacks. Most places in fact don’t make their own; they usually buy in from other places unless it’s a bakery, like Baker’s Base. The ones here look good, though. They seem to be popular.

What’s the service like?
The service here is very friendly. On busy days, the boss jumps in behind the counter. At quieter times, it’s just one person. They’re always packed, really, except for Mondays and Fridays in the daytime when most people are at school or at work. Everyone is welcoming. Good, quick, and they take real pride in the place.

What are the prices like?
The prices here are actually very fair. An americano is around 27 RMB. Expect to pay more for lattes and cappuccinos and all the other fancy coffees they have.

Worth dropping by?
I would recommend this coffee shop, although if it gets any more popular I might stop. It’s one of the best in Baoan, I’m sure. If you want to work here, you can, and it has great views of the crossroads. The atmosphere and serenity of the place are the real draw. If you’re in Baoan and you’re looking for a coffee, a spot to watch the street, flowers and a warm homely vibe, this is it. I’d send you here, especially for photography. Nice pics for your friends, to show how good your life is and how good the vibe is. Absolutely. It’s a no-brainer.
