Up Bug – Best Burger Bar In Longhua, Shenzhen
Location
Baishilong （白石龙）in Longhua district, Shenzhen has a great place to eat that not everyone knows about, but you should. If you like burgers, with a beer or a cocktail on the side you need to know this place. I think for burgers and drinks it has to be one of the best restaurants in the area and its super close to futian.
Not far from Baishilong station in Longhua, UpBug has been open for about a year. Started by a sister team, which I just think is awesome. If you in the area drop by and say hello to Miko, the owner.
Ambience
I love the intimate layout, though not a large place it has seating enough with about 4 or 5 tables. As for myself what I like about the layout is the long bar that is front a centre. UpBug also a few seats outside in a fairly quiet area for you guy who like to puff away on your cigs.
The unfortunate construction of a subway line has taken away from the attraction of sitting outside if I am being honest, but I was just there the other day and all was quiet. I have no idea when the construction will be done. However from the inside, which is where you will be probably eating your burgers, munching on the fries and slurping on your drink you’re not going to notice that.
The later the night goes on the restaraunt bar turned into a great place to hang and have drinks. Miko the boss has some great whiskies on offer and a lot of other strong drinks. That’s not to say they don’t have beer because they have that as well. It’s really nice to place to chill at night, especially if Miko is behind the bar, she’s a super nice person.
Food
All burger recepies have been personall tested, and they have gone to great lengths to get the burger patties just right. There is a fair selection of burgers and all are delicious. If I recall from a conversation correctly a lot eating and testing has gone into getting the flavour just right. I know for the fact the owners ate a lot of burgers patties before settling for what they now have on offer. So yes the patties are all made by them and cooked up by the chef in the back kitchen.
Fries are great the burger patties are very good for the price. I think could do a little better with the buns, but considering the price and taste I’m just nit picking really.
Drinks
They used to have their own beers that they made themselves, if you drop by it would be worth asking if they still have some of their own canned beer. They were a really good deal and tasty too. When I was there last I saw some Tagsu beers which I am sure are good too. I mean what goes better with a burger than a beer? A second beer perhaps.
Open at lunch time, I would say their coffee is decent. Better than Starbucks but not exactly a gourmet affair. I was perfectly happy sipping on a ice Americano just the other day, just after lunch.
Price
Their own beers used to have a by one get one for free deal. Well you may know I’m a bit of a cocktail guy, and I found there cocktail prices very reasonable, and definitely in the “local bar” price range, so around 50 RMB. The beers were even a better deal. Check ahead of time to see if they still have a happy hour.
Service
Service is good and friendly. Burgers are survived as quick as they can be made from their kitchen in the bag, and drinks come out at a good rate with a pleasant and cheerful simile. It’s a very friendly restaurant bar. Come by yourself or alone and you will meet some of the regulars or one of the English speaking owners.
Final thoughts
I’m still working through my list of favourite places to eat and drink. When my list is completed, I probably won’t be using “my favourite” so often. However this place really is one of my favourite restaurants in shenzhen. Unfortunately I’m just to busy with life, work as well as visiting other restaurants and bars for my own pleasure as well as for this blog, if I wasn’t I would be here more often. You don’t need to go to Nanshan for a good burger if you’re down in this part of town.
I miss their burgers once you have tasted them you will too. I love the drinking experience here whether is alcohol or coffee (alcohol is more fun though). At night time this place turned into one of the better bars in Shenzhen, at least in Longhua anyways.
If your nearby pop in and shop them some love, I strongly believe we should supporting wonderful little places like this. I highly recommend this place, its a must try in 2025.
